Anthurium is a tropical plant genus with about 1,000 species in the arum family (Araceae).

Anthuriums are recognized for their vivid, heart-shaped, waxy “spathes” (modified leaves) and ornamental foliage. They are native to the Americas, ranging from Mexico to northern Argentina.
Notable species:
- Anthurium andraeanum: broad, flat spathes
- Anthurium scherzerianum: coiled, colourful spadix
- Anthurium crystallinum & A. clarinervium: silvery-veined leaves
They are popular as indoor decorative plants and in tropical floral arrangements because of their long-lasting blooms and lush foliage.
If you are thinking of growing/cultivating these plants then they thrive in bright, indirect light, high humidity, and temperatures of 16–30 °C. Loose, slightly acidic soil is the order of the day and you should water only when the top soil layer is dry. Overwatering causes root rot. Try to avoid cold/hard water to prevent leaf damage.
Beware: Anthuriums contain calcium oxalate crystals and all parts of the plants are toxic to pets and humans if ingested or contacted.
