Sandwich Time

A banana and marmite sandwich is not something I had ever even vaguely given any thought to, but I was inspired (by James May and Lucy Brown) to give one a try today.

Very simple: marmite (or vegemite in my case as that was all I had in the cupboard) on one slice of bread, sliced banana roundels on top and then the second slice of bread on top.

I’m not sure what I was expecting taste-wise, but it was actually very, very nice, and the aftertaste lasted quite some time (hours). Not ideal, I suppose, if one found it ‘yuk’, but luckily that wasn’t the case.

Vegemite  is a brand name for a thick, dark brown Australian food spread made from leftover brewers’ yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives. It was developed in 1922 and was first sold in stores on 25 October 1923.
It is used as a spread for sandwiches, toast, crumpets and crackers and also as a filling for pastries. Vegemite is similar to other yeast-based spreads such as Marmite in the UK. It does not contain any fat, added sugar or animal content.

I am already wondering what it would be like with the addition of a few ready salted crisps!!!!
