This equestrian statue is ‘L’adolescent et le cheval’ (‘The teenager and the horse’) by Swiss sculptor Heinz Schwarz (1920 to 1994) and this piece, made in bronze, is one of his most famous and dates from 1976. It is located on Quai Wilson, Lake Geneva, and weighs in at an impressive 3,500 kilos.
So the story goes: Many years ago, a young boy was swimming on the edge of the lake with his horse. The boy drowned. From a certain angle, as you walk down Avenue de France towards the lake, all you see is the hand of the drowning boy rising in desperation above the horse’s back.
